Media was an important concept in Persepolis 2. The book compares Eastern and Western media and the untruths they both told.

Marjane ate only pasta when she first arrived in Vienna; it was all she knew how to cook.

When Marjane first arrived in Vienna she was overwhelmed by the variety of foods she could purchase. In contrast, there was no variety in Iran.

Marjane Satrapi

Marjane Satrapi is the author of Persepolis and Persepolis 2.

Marjane spent much of her time in Vienna's fine cafes. Not necessarily as nice as the cafe in Hotel Sacher.

Sachertorte is famous in Vienna. Marjane spent much of her time smoking with friends in Vienna's cafes.

Where Marjane went to live for four years.

Marjane flew here to escape from the miseries of Iran.

Marjane went here for Christmas one year during her stay in Austria with her friend, Lucia.

The Bearded Man

Bearded Men were officers who mainly reprimanded women. Marjane and her friends were often told to adjust their veils. Caught partying, they were taken to prison. Her parents had to pay a fine to get her out of prison.

The veils is a reccuring theme in Persepolis 2. Marjane's family could not stand veils. Iranian men made many laws about how long a veil should be.

Vienna Subway

When Marjane was depressed and left Frau Doctor Heller's she tried to sneak into the subway as much as possible.

Iran Air

Marjane flew on Iran Air. From Vienna to Tehran and Tehran to Paris.

Marjane spent time here with old friends; realizing that they were traditionalists.

The Caspian Sea in Iran

Marjane loved the smell of the Caspian Sea.
